Bequest to help fund new emergency department at St. Mary Medical Center – Long Beach
St. Mary Medical Center Foundation in Long Beach received another generous distribution of $379,510 from the estate of Elmer McClintock, who passed away in February 2016. Most of the McClintock estate proceeds will be used to fund the expansion of the emergency department. The crowded emergency department at St. Mary is one of the busiest in the region, serving more than 55,000 patients a year.
Elmer first befriended St. Mary in July of 2013, calling St. Mary Medical Center Foundation in response to a grateful patient letter to inform the foundation that he intended to include St. Mary in his will. As Elmer worked with staff to finalize his estate and legacy plans, he directed his gift to the upcoming campaign to expand the emergency department and add special services for seniors.
When asked why he chose St. Mary as the beneficiary of his estate, Elmer replied that he enjoyed the private rooms, the good care, and dropping by the Bazzeni Wellness Center for a free cup of coffee.
